Summary:
Early childhood education is essential for shaping the attitudes and behaviours of children towards sustainability. The EU encourages the education and training sector to take action to contribute to the green transition and strengthen the sustainability competencies of all learners. In this regard, kindergarten teachers require additional support in teaching sustainability concepts through science.
The Erasmus+-funded project “The Superhero Lab” aims to empower teachers through trainings and innovative curricula and also engage children as scientists through experiments that cultivate a love of science and STEM subjects, thereby inspiring them to become agents of change in the creation of solutions to environmental issues.
Objectives
The objectives of the project are to:
- Equip kindergarten teachers with the necessary skills and motivation to effectively conduct the Superhero Lab experiments.
- Provide multilingual hands-on learning materials with accompanying teacher support materials.
- Conduct local Superhero Labs with 4 – to 6-year-olds in the associated kindergartens and beyond.
- Enhance the capacity and expertise of 6 European organisations to innovate age-appropriate experiments further.
Results
To achieve its objectives, the project has set two main results:
- Superhero Lab learning material pack, that will include 15 hands-on experiments and a comprehensive teacher’s handbook.
- Superhero Lab blended learning training course, that will include video tutorials, course curricula, presentations and worksheets for teachers (MOOC).
