Do you know what the bridges, windows, and doorways on euro banknotes represent?

Euro banknotes have featured gateways, windows, and bridges since they went into circulation on January 1, 2002. The illustrations can be interpreted as a symbol of European Union member states’ cooperation as well as the EU’s openness to the rest of the world.
The windows and doorways on the front of both series of euro banknotes represent the European spirit of cooperation and openness.

The bridges on the back represent communication among Europeans and between Europe and the rest of the world.

In the EUPlay project’s second deliverable, partners are creating an interactive book to help students learn about the EU in a fun way! One of the topics covered in this interactive book is the symbolism of euro banknotes!
